Stop texting me while I’m driving

Lindell Kay | Vehicle wrecks | Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

You people are trying to get me into trouble. It seems like every single time I get in the car someone sends me a text message – or 10.

It is now illegal in North Carolina to read texts, e-mail or the Web while driving. And prosecutors are taking it seriously.

And for those of you who think it is a joke, kill someone while behind the wheel and let them prove you were texting – you won’t be laughing.

Now, what can we do about people admiring me from afar? I believe that causes a few fender benders too…

  1. Just yesterday as I was leaving Moe’s in Wilmington a driver could have run me over as I crossed the parking lot to my car. I looked at the driver expecting to see an elderly driver, an old man like my father, and maybe the random careening through the parking lot would have me less upset. But I look to see a woman in her mid-thirties looking down at her lap, driving with her knee, and using both hands to text on her cell phone. How she escaped the lot without grazing a parked car or innocent pedestrian is beyond me.

  2. My question is how are they going to enforce this law? Wait until there is an accident to ticket someone?
