Maria’s car

Okay, here’s the deal. Since some of you out there already know it and the rest of you have guessed it, there is no sense in me not saying it.

Maria Lauterbach’s car was not at the bus station for three weeks. Local law-enforcement have known this all along. I guess they were holding onto the information for investigative purposes, but everyone pretty much knows now anyway.

I was the first reporter to figure out the bus ticket thing. I did it by simply going over to the bus station and asking around. But I was tipped off as to what I might find there by the most unlikely source y’all could imagine. No, I’m just kidding, but y’all wouldn’t believe me if I told you who it really was anyway.

The important thing now, though, is where was the car between Dec. 14 and Jan. 7?

The Sheriff’s Department originally said it wasn’t there all along, but then came back and said it was.

They know a whole lot more than they will ever say before the trial.

Anyway, Capt. Sutherland seems to answer questions from y’all as much as me so why don’t y’all ask him about it right here.

  3. Captain Sutherland - Could you please tell us if there was a mapquest in the car with directions downloaded off the computer and IF SO, was it to Cesar’s home or out of state?

  4. Captain Sutherland,

Was that a For Sale sign in the back window of Maria’s car? If so, any ideas on how long it had been there?

Was her bus ticket found in the car?

    Thanks!

  5. Lindell, I’ll believe you if you reveal the source.

  6. Are we sure that it was the LE that came back and said that the car was there all along? I remember when they made the announcement about finding the car there, that they said it was not there before, but when the employee at the bus station was interviewed, he said that the car had been there the whole time, which by the Laurean’s neighbors saying that the car was at Laurean’s during the week following the 14th told me that the employee at the bus station wasn’t 100% of anything. Oh yeah, did anyone else cathch the part of the neighbors also saying that Christina’s car was not there while Maria’s car was? Sounds to me as if the Laurean’s wanted everybody to think maybe they had gotten a new car or maybe borrowed one while theirs was in the shop. Another thing was that Christina said that Cesar told her that he went to the bus station with Maria to help her purchase the bus ticket and the note that was supposely written by him said the same, so why did the employee say she was alone? I think the employee more less just want his five minutes of fame. Another question for everyone to be thinking about, why would Maria go to Laurean for help on buying a bus ticket and a order agaist him telling him to stay away from Maria, why would he even go with her to the bus station? Why do you think the bus station was chosen as the place to leave the car? Somebody wanted this car found quick so instead of maybe of leaving it down a dirt path in the woods were it would take a little longer to find is the reason they chose the bus station.

  7. It is just my opinion, but I believe that Maria’s car was in the Laurean garage on the night of the 14th. There would have been room had the dining room table and chairs were in the dining room at that time. I certainly do not know if the dining room was painted, but it is possible that it was.
I also wonder about the bus station employee’s credibility. Was he shown other pictures along with Maria’s to make an identity of the person buying the bus ticket to El Paso? If any one of us were in his place, would we remember one particular person from a busy day? Could someone else posing as Maria buy the ticket? Did it take her 40 minutes to buy the bus ticket after she got money from the ATM? There are just so many questions about every aspect of this case!

  9. Wow, the car wasn’t at the bus station for three weeks!? Now I really wonder what Cesar did with that car for three weeks.

  10. I just had a thought. If Cesar parked the car at the bus station to make LE or who ever would be looking for a missing person think she just left town, why would he wait three weeks to park it there? I think that would defeat his purpose.

    Comment by Lily — April 10, 2008 @ 10:53 am

  11. I do not think Cesar waited 3 weeks to park Maria’s car there. I do think he waited a day or so, tho, and Maria’s car was in the Laurean garage in the interim.

  12. I don’t think Laurean hid Maria’s car for three weeks either. Her car most likely was parked at the bus station sometime during the 12/15 through 12/19 time frame. I say this since Maria didn’t show up at her duty station on 12/17 and her mother reported her missing on 12/19.

Word got back to the person who murdered her that as far as the Marine Corps was concerned, Maria went UA. What better way to dispose of her car but to park it at the bus station?

  13. Mr. Kay can you get a copy of the letter the MC sent back to Turner? I hear they have responded and he wasn’t pleased. He put his letter out to get support so I am expecting the return correspondence to be public too.

    Turner calls Marine response ‘inadequate’

    So let’s have it already.

  14. I wonder what the congressman is going to do now? If the answers are inadequate, what next? Does it just stop there? If it does it won’t help anyone in the future. I think the answers should be published also.

I wonder what the family will do now?

    Comment by Lily — April 10, 2008 @ 12:43 pm

  15. That is pretty pathetic of the Congressman to make that comment and then not release the USMC response to the public like he did with the inquiry he sent.

It is sooooo obvious, that he so jumped on the “what can I do to help my low ratings”, when he sent that letter to the USMC.

The lack of being candid, makes you wonder if he and the Lauterbachs are embarrassed about information that was included in the response. Or, it doesn’t fit into their rewrite of Maria. Maybe it includes evidence that just plain thwarts their agenda because the USMC played by the book and they have the documentation to prove it?

Can the USMC publish the respone? Seems only fair, he published what he sent to them, they should be able to do the same.

Of course there is always FOIA. However, I bet the Congressman’s office would redact the heck out of what is sent in response to the FOIA.

Lindell, I think you need to start a blog called “Why won’t the Congressman Share?”

  16. There is more out today. The Dayton Daily News has a copy of the responses. Maybe more will keep coming out.

  17. The paper is working on a story about the Congressman now, one of our editors will be speaking to him shortly, and we will be posting the response letter from the Marine Corps too.

    Late for trial, later.

  18. Thans for your prompt response Mr. Kay. Several people have called the office of the Congressman and they didn’t seem too responsive. Glad to know you will get a copy of the letter.

  19. About Maria’s car. I remember something in the very beginning of the case where a “fast food” worker said the car had been in their (FF restaurant) parking lot for 3 weeks. Is the bus station near the fast food place? I am not in Jacksonville, so I don’t know the exact places.

    Comment by justice4all — April 10, 2008 @ 3:58 pm

  20. I am told that it is. A friend of mine from Jax said that the bus station sits right behind the checkers and that the parking lot is just a open parking lot. If her car had been there for three week, I really think that someone would have noticed this car and either had it towed or at least called the LE to check it out. You have to think about it, this was a business parking lot, so how many businesses do you know of that will just let a car sit there for three weeks taking up customer parking?

    Comment by Lori — April 10, 2008 @ 4:48 pm

  21. Actually there’s a Merita Bread Store sits between Checker’s and the bus station.

  22. I think it is VITAL

    Comment by justice4all — April 11, 2008 @ 1:32 pm

  23. I think it is VITAL for that person (Ann?) who had info about a couple with a black truck throwing keys into a vehicle and wiping down everything to GO TO THE LAW with that info. I think you can give info and remain anonymous if that would be better for you. BUT WHO KNOWS THAT YOUR WITNESSING THAT COULD BE EXACTLY THE CRITICAL PIECE OF EVIDENCE NEEDED TO BREAK THIS CASE. Cesar has been caught and I am so thankful. However, it is a long way from caught to concluded. Any piece of actual witnessed evidence is worth millions of guesses. Please, go to the Law with it, Ann.
