A real blast

Michael Ward is suspected of having a gun in his rectum when he was booked into the Onslow County Jail.

Read the news.

Read the official press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

It seems besides having a suspected ability for really packing it in, Ward has a proclivity for making up identities. He is charged with it by the N.C. State Highway Patrol and was previously convicted of it in Georgia.

Speaking of Georgia, it was like pulling eyeteeth when trying to find out who they think Ward killed in Atlanta. Man, they made the locals here seem like open books.

Ward:                                           Ward:                                             Ward:

The news came together really quick late Thursday night when three seemingly unrelated stories melded into one.

1) I knew by Wednesday that troopers stun-gunned a drunk driver, but seriously, that happens a lot, so I wasn’t too interested.

2) I heard a rumor Thursday that a gun was found in the jail, but since I was working on cellphone use by inmates, I didn’t think it was true. I mean, how could it be, right?

3) Got wind late Thursday night that a fugitive from Atlanta had been arrested in Jacksonville.

Mike McHugh and I drove to the Onslow County Magistrate’s Office at close to midnight. As we drew all the threads together we realized what we really had.

Some folks doubt this .38-caliber, which is every bit of 10 inches, could fit inside Ward’s rectum.

I don’t know about him specifically, but as a sailor hitting ports in Italy, I have seen some things that you wouldn’t believe.
