Local businessman facing serious assault charges

The court case of an Emerald Isle businessman accused of assaulting a woman last year was continued Friday to a later date in N.C. District Court in Carteret County.

Douglas Craig Starcke, 31, is charged with assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats.

Starcke co-owns South Swell Surf Shop and is a managing partner of First Flight Solution, a Transportation Impact company.

Starcke through his companies has sought recent publicity for donating money to help build a veteran’s memorial in Emerald Isle and is a major sponsor of the beach town’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival.

Starcke, through a receptionist at his firm, declined comment.

His next court date is set for April 27, according to the N.C. Court Calendar.
